2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Price, Reviews, Photos & More | Kelly's Blue Book (2023)

Preis:The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan starts at $26,295. That goes for a front-wheel drive S model. The top-of-the-line SEL R-Line (standard with all-wheel drive) starts at $36,970.

The Volkswagen Tiguan 2022Compact SUV/Crossoverhas received an update. It looks sharper and possibly more sophisticated. Although the chassis and powertrain remain the same, the interior and engineering have been improved.

As in years past, the Tiguan (the second generation of which made its debut in 2018) remains a roomy compact crossover with a decent array of driver-assist features and safety tech. It remains one of the few in its class to have a third row of seats.

Sure, those extra seats in a compact crossover are a bit cramped (although the US only gets the long-wheelbase version of the Tiguan), but for the occasional short trip when you're carrying a few extra kids, it's plenty. All front-wheel drive versions of the new VW Tiguan have it as standard. If all-wheel drive is used, that means only two rows of seats. This increases the load capacity.

Volkswagen Tiguan 2022 prices

The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan S with front-wheel drive has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $22,295 plus destination fee. All-wheel drive costs an additional $1,500 on S, SE and SE R-Line Black trim levels. It is quite a reasonable price.

At the top of the 2022 Tiguan lineup is the $36,970 SEL R-Line. This model comes with almost everything as standard, so it is not possible to spend much more on options.

At these prices, the Tiguan is financially in the same class as theHonda CR-V,Mazda CX-5,toyota rav4, Yhyundai tucson. Hesubaru foresterIt costs a few hundred less and comes standard with all-wheel drive.

Before you buy, check KBB.com's Fair Price to find out what others in your area have paid for their new Tiguan. Resale value isn't on the level of the CR-V, RAV4 and Forester. But they're pretty much on par with the Jeep Cherokee, Ford Escape, and Chevrolet Equinox.

Drive the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

When you sit in the driver's seat, it quickly becomes clear why the Tiguan is one of VW's best sellers. Outward visibility is good from this elevated driving position. It's complemented by standard driver assistance systems such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, as well as blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and automatic reverse braking.

It's a joy to see and use a traditional shifter instead of the buttons that are becoming more common on new vehicles. When you click "Drive" and are on the road, the VW Tiguan's quiet interior and comfortable handling (even with the larger wheels) characterize the first impression.

Although other parts of the 2022 Tiguan have been updated, the engine remains the same. It's a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder used in many VW cars and crossovers. In this case, it makes 184 hp and 221 pound-feet of torque.

If you put these abstract numbers in a real context, they have considerable influence. Especially when accelerating from low speeds, for example when starting at a green light or accelerating to gain more momentum on uphill sections.

So far so beautiful. If that's all a family wants from their compact crossover—the ability to run errands every day and handle road trips in comfort—then a new Tiguan could be a solid choice. However, once passengers have been dropped off at school, soccer practice or wherever, this is no longer the right ride for solo driving fun.

Going full throttle generates little more than added engine noise, which sounds harsh at high revs. Most of the thrust has already been delivered at the bottom of that sweet spot, where an engine really revs up.

Even the steering is hardly felt. It's light and easy to park and stuff, but in corners it's hard to tell what the front wheels are doing. The brake pedal is equally imprecise. And this refined suspension is more about comfort than keeping body roll to a minimum.

Four wheel drive is available which is great in winter. Note, however, that this feature cannot be combined with the Tiguan's optional third row of seats.

On the plus side, the lane keeping assist isn't too complicated. This allows one wheel to touch a lane marking, but it still "knows" the driver's intended line and will not intervene on the slightest deviation.

A little clue. The tailgate is a bit heavier. It is a SE level motorized version. So try to save on the budget if possible.

inner comfort

VW interiors are among our favorites for quality design and premium materials. Interior highlights of the new Tiguan include the new 8-inch or 10-inch digital display package, the latest MIB3 infotainment system, a large infotainment touchscreen and 15-colour ambient interior lighting. However, there are cheaper hard plastic pieces on either side of the center console and in the door pockets.

Unlike the European models, the US-spec Tiguan has a volume control instead of a slider. Although the fan speed and climate control temperature controls on US models are also sliders, they are located in recessed notches so the driver can find them by touch without taking their eyes off the road.

All 2022 Tiguans have a spacious second row of seats. A 6 foot cyclist can sit comfortably behind someone who has the front seat pushed all the way back. Splitting 40/20/40 and folding flat, the second-row seat can be moved forward or backward approximately 15cm, giving you the option to prioritize cargo space over space for the legs or the opposite.

Tiguan S models are equipped with black or gray cloth interiors. SE and SE R-Line trims feature black, gray or tan simulated leatherette surfaces. The Tiguan SEL R-Line's real leather upholstery is available in black, gray or noisette, a new light brown.

In the SE stage, the dual-zone automatic climate control is standard. Understand voice commands. Say something like, "Hey Volkswagen, my feet are cold" and (in this case) the system will direct warm air into the footwells.

The 2022 VW Tiguan also gets a new steering wheel with touch sliders, as well as the Car-Net App Connect wireless system and (in top configuration) a 480-watt Fender stereo system.

With front-wheel drive and three rows of seats, cargo space increases from 12 to 65.3 cubic feet. If Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is installed, these figures are 37.6 and 73.4 cubic feet. This means that the Tiguan offers as much space in the rear as aHonda CR-Vo onetoyota rav4, with much more cargo space than aMazda CX-5(30.9 cubic feet) orsubaru forester(30.1).

Exterior design

An all-new front bumper, wider grille, and front and rear LED lights give the 2022 Tiguan a fresher and possibly more stylish look than before. Also new are alloy wheel designs with diameters from 17 to 20 inches. As do the blocky Tiguan lettering on the tailgate, which sits directly below the new thin-letter VW logo.

These are pseudo exhaust outlets in the rear bumper of the new Tiguan. The actual exhaust system, which is not visible, has a downpipe pointing far back on the driver's side underbody.

Expected to be the most popular variant of the 2022 Tiguan lineup, the SE R-Line Black features 19-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and an all-black headliner.

favorite features

VOLKSWAGEN DIGITAL CABIN
For 2022, a fully digital instrument cluster is standard on all new Tiguan variants. With the exception of the top model, all have an 8-inch screen; the SEL R-Line has a 10-inch version. This digital instrument cluster can display an analog speedometer and tachometer, as well as maps and a variety of other gauges.

INFOTAINMENT CAR-NET APP-CONNECT
With wireless Car-Net App-Connect, which is standard on all 2022 VW Tiguans, you can access your favorite smartphone apps right through the dash. Maps, news and music are also displayed on the touchscreen for ease of use. The subscription-based security and services suite adds features like remote lock/unlock and automatic failure notifications.

standard functions

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on the 2022 Tiguan, along with keyless entry/start, heated front seats, WiFi, an 8-inch digital driver's display, touchscreen controls in the center console, and a touchscreen information and 6.5-inch entertainment.

As for safety, all 2022 Tiguan models feature Front Assist (automatic emergency braking), Side Assist (blind spot monitoring) and rear cross-traffic alert.

job options

Four-wheel drive (4Motion) is optional on all trims, with the exception of the top-of-the-line SEL R-Line, which comes standard.

The S comes with an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, and a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel. It is also offered with an IQ.Drive package ($895) that offers adaptive cruise control with Lane Keep Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist. These functions are in the SE standard.

In addition to leatherette seating surfaces, the Tiguan SE also gets a power liftgate, 8-way power driver's seat, wireless charging, and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. The SE R-Line Black comes with a leather-wrapped/trim-specific steering wheel, as well as 15-color ambient lighting, front/rear parking sensors, and a panoramic sunroof (the latter is optional on the SE).

The SEL R-Line features a 10-inch digital driver display, as well as leather upholstery, heated/ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, 360-degree camera system, Fender audio, traffic sign recognition , automatic high beams and an automatic transmission Parallel and perpendicular parking system.

motor and gears

There are no changes under the hood of the Tiguan for 2022. This compact crossover from VW is still powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 184 hp and 221 pound-feet of torque. The only gearbox is an 8-speed automatic.

Fuel economy has improved slightly this year. Some turbocharged engines require premium gasoline, but this is perfectly fine with regular gasoline.

The 4Motion All Wheel Drive (AWD) system has a mechanical center differential and electronic differential locks. Selectable driving modes include On-Road, Snow, Off-Road and Custom Off-Road. There are four additional settings in On-Road mode: Normal, Sport, Eco, and Custom.

The maximum towing capacity is 1,500 pounds.

2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four
184 CV a 6.000 rpm
221 pound-feet of torque at 1,900 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy: 23/30 mpg (FWD), 22/29 mpg (AWD), 21/28 mpg (AWD R-Line)

KBB Vehicle Rating and Rating Methodology

Our expert ratings are based on hours driven and crunching the numbers to ensure you choose the best car for you. We thoroughly review and analyze every new SUV, car, truck or minivan for sale in the United States and benchmark it against the competition. When everything settles down, we'll have our reviews.

We need new ratings every time an entirely new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle is launched. Additionally, we re-evaluate these ratings when a new generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh, essentially, a mid-cycle refresh (usually around two or three years) with a minor refresh on a car, often even with upgrades from features and technology.

Rather than pulling random numbers out of thin air or a meaningless checklist, KBB editors rank a vehicle where it belongs in its class. Before a car can get the KBB rating, it has to prove that it's better (or worse) than the other cars it's racing and tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing it.

Our editors drive and live with a specific vehicle. We ask the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the equipment, the comfort and, of course, the price. Does it fulfill the purpose for which it was built? (Whether that purpose is to travel efficiently to and from work across town, to keep your family safe, to make you feel like you've reached the top, or on your way there, or to feel like if I have finally found the right partner for your lifestyle.)

We inspect every vehicle we test for the day-to-day things: parking, lane changing, reversing, cargo and cargo space, as well as the essentials: acceleration, braking, handling, interior silence and comfort, build quality, quality of material and reliability.
